Estate Silver Jewelry Is A Hot Fashion
Pick!
by
Sher Maten
Sterling silver is an excellent choice in estate
jewelry. Long lasting, easy to care for, and so
beautiful. Buying estate jewelry sterling silver can
be a lot of fun but it can also be confusing.
Whether
you are looking at sterling silver for a gift for that
special someone or looking to add to your own jewelry
to make that fashion statement, its important you
understand the terms that are used throughout the
industry. Once you understand the terminology you will
be better equipped to choose quality pieces of
sterling silver jewelry and youll be able to complete
your purchases with a lot more confidence.
It
doesnt matter whether you are buying on line or at
your local store. It doesnt matter if you are buying
in the USA or Canada or in Europe or China. The
terminology used to describe silver are the same
around the world.
Sterling silver jewelry has always been popular and
remains so today. Sterling silver estate jewelry has
also shared its time in the limelight but in recent
years its popularity has exploded. Thats because
buyers are looking for something a little more unique
than modern sterling silver can offer. Everyone knows
how beautiful sterling silver is and how durable it
is, thats one of the reasons its such a popular
choice. And of course lets not forget how affordable
it is!
Silver
has it history into ancient times, but has not
survived as well as gold. Unlike gold which has no ill
effects from age and exposure sterling silver does. It
deteriorates over time. Throughout history sterling
silver has experienced bursts of popularity where it
was far more vogue than wearing gold jewelry. Today is
one of those periods in time!
Silver
is the most common of all the precious metals. Fine
silver is pure silver but it not commonly used for
jewelry because it is way too soft and bends and
breaks far too easily. Instead fine silver is mixed
with copper. 925 parts of silver are mixed with 75
parts of copper which is just enough copper to firm up
the silver to make beautiful jewelry. This 925 grade
is called sterling silver throughout the world and is
recognized as the purest form of silver available for
jewelry.
This is
the mark you are looking for. Either that or the
actual sterling mark. Both will guarantee you that
what you are buying is sterling silver and not some
cheap base metal like nickel which will wear and look
awful very quickly.
Silver
has many benefits over gold. It is much lighter
weighing about half as much as gold. It is much more
flexible but not as malleable so it allows for
beautiful jewelry creations. Lastly it is much less
expensive yet it will last you your lifetime and
probably those of a couple of more generations. Two
exact pieces one in silver and one in gold. The gold
piece will cost 5 to 6 times more than the sterling
silver piece.
Current
fashion trends which include a lot of black or dark
materials have added to the popularity of sterling
silver as it looks very well with black. In fact it
has much more of a dramatic impact than gold does.
Silver
likes to be worn. It helps keep it shiny and
beautiful. Left hanging for any length of time means
youll need to polish it to remove the tarnish. In our
fast paced world silver is an excellent choice. Just
as we have wash and wear clothing silver is an
excellent grab and wear style of jewelry.
So the
next time you are in the market for some quality
sterling silver jewelry be sure to check out estate
silver jewelry!

Sterling Silver Jewelry -- Classic
Simplicity.
by Sam
Serio
Sterling silver jewelry is synonymous with class and
style in the world of fashion. Its versatility and
flexibility make it a welcome and useful addition to
any persons wardrobe. Sterling silver jewelry
epitomizes classic simplicity in itself, but as the
setting for gemstones or combined with other precious
metals, the aesthetic value it lends to the wearer is
inestimable.
Pure silver by itself is too soft and would not be
practical for jewelry and other ornamental objects.
Sterling silver is made when another metal, such as
copper, is added to the silver to make it hardy and
tough. So while it is not as sturdy as stainless
steel, sterling silver jewelry is nonetheless very
durable and long-lasting. That is why a wide array of
rings, necklaces, bracelets, cuff links, belt buckles,
body jewelry and more are made from sterling silver.
All sterling silver jewelry is marked as such, and
sometimes the name of the designer or manufacturer is
engraved on the piece. It is a highly reflective
precious metal whose simple yet elegant look is
appreciated by both the young and old, the famous and
not-so-famous. Some celebrities adorned with sterling
silver jewelry on television or in magazines include
actresses Gwyneth Paltrow and Kristin Davis, musician
Sheryl Crow, and hotel heiress and budding thespian
Paris Hilton.
Certain maintenance measures need to be taken to care
for sterling silver jewelry. To prevent unsightly
tarnishing, it should be washed with water and a mild
detergent after it is worn, and since it is softer
than some other precious metals, abrasion and shock to
the piece should be prevented to avoid scratching or
marring its surface. In the event that tarnishing does
occur, sterling silver jewelry can be polished to
restore it to its former sheen.
Whether your dress of choice be casual jeans,
practical office attire or a slinky, little black
dress for a night out on the town, sterling silver
jewelry is the perfect accessory. It adapts easily to
all fashion trends without sacrificing the wearers
personal sense of style. Its allure remains
undiminished as it continues to evoke the idea of
simple luxury.

Sterling Silver Jewelry Fashion Trends
for the New Year and Beyond.
by Sam
Serio
Each year, on fashion runways from New York to Paris,
Milan, and Toyko, sterling silver is "new again" as
designers interpret it in new and exciting ways. What
makes sterling silver a fashion perennial? The answer
is clear: when it comes to beauty, versatility,
durability, and affordability, sterling silver jewelry
is unsurpassed. In the hands of talented artists and
designers, sterling silver is constantly "reinvented"
to suit the evolving tastes of the women who wear it.
But whether as a ring, a necklace, or bracelet,
standing alone or presented in combination with
gemstones and other precious metals…sterling silver is
always in fashion. Heres a look at whats "hot" this
year: Peace of Silver In 2004, many Oscar presenters
and recipients wore gracefully and simply designed
"Dove of Peace." pin. Embraced by such Hollywood
luminaries as Meryl Streep, Susan Sarandon, Drew
Barrymore, and Leonardo DiCaprio, it has also been
seen on the Dali Lama and Nobel Peace Laureates Oscar
Aria Sanchez, Betty Williams, Mairead Corrigan
Maguire, and former UN Assistant Secretary-General
Gillian Sorrensom. Now non-celebrities may purchase
the pin in sterling silver pin to demonstrate both
their commitment to peace and their fashion sense. The
2005 sterling silver interpretation was designed by
award-winning American jewelry artist Henry Dunay to
resonate the energy of Picassos "Dove Of Peace."
Silver Screen With the enormous popularity of the
"Lord of the Rings" series, it comes as no surprise
that designers have created jewelry based on the
elaborately crafted pieces in the films. Based on the
actual pendant worn in the Lord of the Rings film, the
Arwen Evenstar Pendant is crafted in sterling silver
and comes in a wooden gift box. Measuring 2-1/2 inches
in length with a 18" sterling silver chain and a
Swarovski crystal stone, each piece is accompanied by
a certificate of authenticity, adding long-term value
to its other charms. Works Like A Charm Charm
bracelets are both wonderfully retro and extremely
cutting edge. Britney Spears, Jennifer Lopez, Avril
Levigne, Hilary Duff, and other high-visibility
high-fashion celebrities are wrapping their wrists in
silver bracelets with the hip L.A. brand "Eldorado
Club." The "Girlie Charm Bracelet" is adorned with
charming femme-friendly charms including a cat, a
cocktail glass, and a kitty. Sterling Silver - Always

Care and Cleaning of your Sterling Silver Jewelry
1.) For daily cleaning it is recommended to use a
simple jewelry polishing cloth that is impregnated
with special jewelry cleaner. These are widely
available and are very easy to use. Store your cloth
in a plastic zip-lock bag, and keeping your jewelry
drawer or armoire. It is a good idea to have one
cleaning cloth for gold and one for silver. 2.) For a
slightly more "in-depth" cleaning you may want to use
a liquid jewelry cleaner. 3.) For cleaning badly
tarnished silver, heres a neat little trick a)Cover
the inside bottom of a heatproof glass dish on bowl
with a piece of aluminum foil, shiny side up. b)Place
the tarnished silver in the bottom of the dish,
contacting the aluminum foil. c)Add 1 heaping
tablespoon of baking soda, and then slowly pour
boiling water to cover the piece. The tarnish will
gradually collect on the aluminum foil. d)Remove your
silver, rinse thoroughly, and polish.
Here are Some Tips for Greater Enjoyment of your
Sterling Silver Jewelry
1.) Are your silver chains all tied-up in knots? If
so, heres a nifty little trick for straightening them
out. Dust your chain with a little talcum powder and
then try to unknot it. If the knot is stubborn, place
a small drop of baby oil on a sheet of wax paper. Lay
the knot in the oil and work it out with two pins;
then clean the chain as instructed below.
2.) Always apply make-up, perfumes, oils or colognes
before you put on your jewelry. We hope you have
